Individual Coaching in a Group Setting
Get Personal Attention Without Training Alone
Small Group Personal Training at Active Life Fitness gives you the guidance of a personal trainer while allowing you to exercise alongside a supportive group of adults working toward their own goals.
Unlike a traditional fitness class, everyone is not expected to complete the same workout. Your exercises are selected and adjusted according to your goals, health history, experience, and current abilities.
You receive coaching, accountability, and encouragement throughout every session while becoming part of a welcoming fitness community in Garwood, NJ.

Our Small Group Personal Training program is built primarily for adults over 40 who want to become stronger and healthier but may not feel comfortable in a traditional gym.
This program may be right for you if you:
- Have not exercised in several months or years.
- Are completely new to strength training.
- Want to lose weight and improve your overall fitness.
- Want more energy for work, family, travel, and daily life.
- Need exercises adjusted around your current abilities.

- Want to train with people who have similar goals and experiences.
INDIVIDUAL PROGRAMS. SHARED SUPPORT.
PERSONAL TRAINING WITHOUT THE ONE-SIZE-FITS-ALL CLASS
At Active Life Fitness, sharing a session does not mean sharing the same workout. One member may be building foundational strength while another is improving fitness, returning after an injury, or working toward a completely different goal.
Our coaches provide each member with the appropriate exercises, level of challenge, and progression. Your program can also be adjusted when you are managing soreness, movement limitations, or changing circumstances.
You receive the structure and attention of personal training with the energy, relationships, and accountability that come from a small community.
Fitness for Life After 40
Build Strength Without the All-or-Nothing Mindset
Active Life Fitness was created for people who want the benefits of exercise but do not enjoy the typical gym experience.
Our approach focuses on sustainable progress instead of extreme workouts, intimidation, or short-term fitness trends. We help you develop strength, mobility, and confidence that support how you want to live outside the gym.
Your coaches pay attention to how you move, how you respond to exercise, and what you need on a particular day. If something is not appropriate for you, we find another way to train the same area or movement.
The goal is to help you become better than yesterday while building a routine you can continue for years.
Your Training Experience
A Structured Workout With Room to Adapt
Small Group Personal Training sessions at Active Life Fitness are generally 45–60 minutes. Each session is coached and organized around the needs of the members training that day.
A typical session may include:
- A guided warm-up that prepares you for the planned movements.
- Strength exercises selected for your individual program.
- Functional movements that support daily life.
- Coaching on form, posture, and technique.
- Exercise modifications based on your current abilities.
- Appropriate progressions as your strength improves.
- Encouragement and accountability from your coaches and group.
Members train two or three times per week. Your coaches will recommend a schedule based on your goals, availability, experience, and recovery needs.
You will not be expected to keep pace with another member. Everyone can work toward their own goals while sharing the same supportive environment.
A Team Invested in Your Progress
Coaching Expertise for Fitness After 40
At Active Life Fitness, you are supported by a team rather than relying on only one trainer. Our coaches communicate about your progress and work together to provide consistent guidance throughout your program.

Why I Became a Coach
I graduated from Montclair State College with a degree in Food Service Management, as my original dream was to own a restaurant. I spent 16
years in that industry—including eight as a deli owner—but over time, I
realized it just wasn’t fulfilling. I started questioning whether this was really how I wanted to spend the rest of my life.
Around that time, my younger brother Dave was battling a brain tumor.
Instead of focusing on his illness, he dedicated the last eight years of his life to helping others “live their dreams.” His courage and perspective had a profound impact on me. It forced me to take a hard look at my own life.
My love of coaching began when I coached high school wrestling in my twenties. I loved helping young athletes build confidence and discover what they were capable of. After selling the deli in 1998, I decided to pursue coaching again—this time helping adults become healthier, stronger, and
more confident as they age. Today, I’m grateful to do work that feels meaningful every day, and in many ways, it’s my way of carrying forward Dave’s message.
A Little About Me Outside the Gym
When I’m not at the gym, I enjoy relaxing with Kim and our family, traveling, listening to music, watching sports (Giants, Yankees, and “real” wrestling), plus continuing to grow with personal development and business education.

Why I Became a Coach
After years of training women, I kept noticing something nobody in the fitness industry wanted to talk about.
It wasn’t the workouts that were failing people. It was the way they thought about themselves. The self-doubt. The all-or-nothing mindset. The voice that said, “I’ve tried this before, and it didn’t work.” The quiet belief that somewhere along the way, the window had closed, and it was too late to change.
That’s what sent me back to school.
I earned my Master of Social Work from Fordham University and became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker because I needed to understand what was actually getting in the way — not just prescribe a better program. Now I get to do both. I help women get physically stronger and help them dismantle the thinking that has been stopping them for years. That combination — body and mind together — is why the changes actually stick.
A Little About Me Outside the Gym
I also work part-time at a perinatal mental health center at Barnabas Health, supporting postpartum women through some of the hardest chapters of their lives. What I’ve learned in both settings is the same thing: when you help someone believe they’re capable of more, everything changes.
I like to challenge myself in every area of my life. I’ve competed in the New York City Marathon twice, done Spartan races, and stepped into acting and modeling. I also create content around fitness and mindset for women who are done being told that getting older means slowing down. I love being with my family, traveling, and keeping life genuinely interesting.
I don’t believe getting older means disappearing. I believe it’s an opportunity most women haven’t been permitted to take yet — and helping them take it is some of the best work I’ve done.
But the best role of all was raising my three children, who have grown into wonderful adults.

What is Small Group Personal Training?
Small Group Personal Training combines individualized exercise programming and professional coaching with the encouragement of training alongside other members. Your workout can differ from the workouts being completed by others in the group.
How is it different from a regular group fitness class?
A typical group fitness class gives everyone the same workout. At Active Life Fitness, exercises are selected and adjusted according to each member’s goals, abilities, experience, and health history.
How long are the training sessions?
Small Group Personal Training sessions generally last 45–60 minutes.
How often should I train?
Members train two or three times each week. Your coaches will recommend a schedule based on your goals, availability, experience, and recovery needs.
Is Small Group Personal Training suitable for beginners?
Yes. Many Active Life Fitness members begin after years away from exercise or with no previous strength-training experience. Your coaches will explain the movements and help you begin at an appropriate level.
Do I need to be over 40?
No. Active Life Fitness specializes in personal training for adults over 40, but there is no strict age requirement. The program may also suit younger adults who value personalized, sustainable, coach-led training.
Can my exercises be modified?
Yes. If you have been cleared to exercise, our coaches can consider your health history and adjust movements around your current abilities. Active Life Fitness does not diagnose injuries or provide medical treatment.
Will I have my own workout?
Your exercises are selected according to your individual program. Other members may perform different exercises, variations, resistance levels, or progressions during the same session.
